My Approach To Speech Therapy
I believe all humans should have access to successful communication, no matter how that might sound, look, or feel. I conduct comprehensive evaluations in both English and Spanish, which gives me all the information I need to make the best evidence-based therapy plan for you or your child. I work closely with families to help foster a language-rich home environment. I offer specialized evaluations and therapy for adults, including accent modification, dialect coaching, fluency, and gender-affirming voice therapy. I approach every case with a culturally responsive, inclusive, and non-judgmental mindset. My services are flexible—I can bring therapy to the privacy and comfort of your home, or we can meet at a designated spot within the community. All services at Key Speech and Language are grounded in evidence-based practice, cultural responsiveness, and inclusivity. KSL recognizes and affirms the value and beauty of all methods of communication, across all languages.
What A Session Looks Like With Keelin
PEDIATRIC THERAPY: As therapy begins, the therapist prioritizes building familiarity and trust with each child. Your child’s interests, personality, and natural communication style are intentionally woven into each session to encourage engagement and connection. This could mean incorporating their favorite topics, preferred activities, or simply following their lead when appropriate. Therapy sessions are structured but flexible, allowing space for creativity, comfort, and meaningful interaction. This approach not only helps target communication goals more effectively, but it ensures your child feels seen, supported, and safe throughout the process. By nurturing confidence and self-expression, therapy also supports your child's growing independence as a communicator, both in daily life and across social, academic, and home environments.
ADULT THERAPY: Connection is key! Therapy will begin with getting to know you and establishing trust, discussing your communication goals, and collaboratively developing a therapy plan that will help you reach them. Key Speech and Language offers accent modification and dialect coaching to help you reach your unique communication goals while honoring your linguistic background and cultural history, gender-affirming therapy to help you develop a voice and communication style that reflect your genuine, wonderful self while ensuring safe, non-harmful use of your voice along the way, and fluency (stuttering and cluttering) treatment to support navigating moments of dysfluent speech and building confidence in specific situations, or simply exploring personal communication goals with an expert.
Fun Facts About Keelin
I am originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where my siblings and I grew up with our mother. While raising the five of us on her own, my mom also managed to complete her postgraduate program and obtain her license to practice occupational therapy. From a young age, I watched my mother use her knowledge to help people who really needed it. Seeing her make such a remarkable difference in others' lives led me to realize my own love of helping people. This inherent drive to help others and my almost-nerdy passion for language have formed the foundation upon which I have built my experience and expertise in the field of speech-language pathology. In 2021, I moved from New Mexico to Tacoma, Washington with my two cats: KalaMata and 3 (pronounced 'three'). We love the Pacific Northwest! The weather is a bit wetter here than the New Mexican desert, but it has been great fun exploring the Puget Sound, climbing Mount Rainier, and watching my favorite teams battle for the win (let's go Seattle). The cats also love when I stay home to play games, watch a funny movie, or start another new art project.
