My Approach To Speech Therapy

I believe therapy should feel personal, practical, and empowering. Every client has unique strengths, challenges, and goals, so I take time to truly listen and design therapy that fits who you are — not just a diagnosis or test score. My approach combines evidence-based techniques with creativity, patience, and compassion to make therapy both effective and meaningful. For children, I use play-based, engaging methods that keep them motivated while targeting important communication and developmental skills. For adults, I focus on functional, real-world strategies that can be carried over into everyday life, whether that’s improving speech after a stroke, strengthening swallowing, or supporting confidence in conversations. Collaboration is at the heart of my practice. I work closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure that progress continues beyond the therapy session. I also provide tools, resources, and clear strategies so clients feel confident applying what they learn in daily routines.

What A Session Looks Like With Chauncey

Your time in therapy is all about you and your goals. Each session is designed to be supportive, engaging, and focused on making real progress you can carry into everyday life. Here’s what you can expect: A Warm Start - We’ll begin by checking in, reviewing any updates since our last session, and celebrating progress no matter how big or small. Personalized Activities – Every session includes evidence-based techniques tailored to your needs. For children, this might look like play-based games, storytelling, or interactive activities that keep learning fun. For adults, sessions may include targeted exercises, conversational practice, swallowing strategies, or tools for daily communication. Collaboration – I’ll guide you step-by-step, explain why we’re doing each activity, and adjust in the moment to match your pace. Parents and caregivers are often included, so you’ll leave with practical strategies to use at home or in daily routines. Practical Takeaways – At the end of each session, you’ll get clear, simple strategies and activities to practice outside of therapy — because lasting change happens when skills are used in real life. Encouragement & Support – I celebrate effort and progress. My goal is to make therapy a positive, motivating experience where clients feel safe to try new things and proud of their growth. No two sessions ever look exactly the same, because I believe therapy should be as unique as the individual in front of me. Whether we’re working on first words, building social communication, or restoring skills after an illness or injury, every session is built around your needs, your strengths, and your future goals.

Fun Facts About Chauncey

When I’m not working with clients, you can usually find me enjoying the outdoors or spending time with family and friends. I love fishing — it’s my way of slowing down and appreciating nature. Traveling is another passion of mine, as I enjoy exploring new places and cultures. I’m also always looking to sharpen my BBQ techniques (I take pride in perfecting the grill!). And when it comes to downtime, I’m a big football fan — I never miss a good game.
