Briana Bullard-Thomas

Briana Bullard-Thomas is a speech-language pathologist in the Hampton Roads area. She grew up in Virginia Beach. She received her undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University, and Master’s from Hampton University. Briana is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She worked in both private practice and in a children’s hospital, gaining experience with articulation, language development, AAC, and Autism. She excels in providing skilled intervention for children with suspected, and diagnosed Autism, and AAC.

My Approach To Speech Therapy

I take a child-led, play based approach to speech therapy. I enjoy involving families so that caregivers have the competence and confidence to continue to work on functional skills in daily routines. I enjoy establishing relationships with families so that they feel comfortable asking questions, building skills to assist their child in continued progress both in and outside of therapy.n What A Session Looks Like With Me

I like to first get updates from the family and patient since the last session. Receive feedback from families as to what techniques worked, and what did not work. This will allow for families to then show how they used play in their daily routines. I will then be able to edit, provide suggestions, and model next steps to continue your child’s progress towards goals that are important to the family. At the end, I like to allow family members to model play skills they will work on until our next sessions, and answer questions.
