Autumn Hughes
Autumn Hughes, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist, yoga teacher, and mom. She earned her Master of Education in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Valdosta State University in 2020 and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA. She's worked in schools, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and private practice, supporting both children and adults with a wide range of communication needs. Autumn loves speech therapy because communication is more than words — it’s connection, confidence, and change. Helping children find their voice and guiding adults to regain independence is the heart of her work. Alongside her clinical background, Autumn is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) and certified children’s yoga teacher (CYT-100). Her years as a competitive dancer taught her the power of expression, which continues to shape her therapy and yoga practice today. Autumn grew up in Gwinnett County and now lives in North Metro Atlanta with her daughter and their dog. I specialize in speech sound development, language growth, autism spectrum communication, and neurologically based differences in children. For adults, I provide therapy for cognitive-communication, swallowing, voice, fluency, and motor speech disorders — including support after stroke, brain injury, or progressive neurological conditions. Every client begins with a comprehensive evaluation where I learn their story, identify strengths and challenges, and create a collaborative plan. I also offer telehealth sessions for convenience and accessibility.
My Approach To Speech Therapy
I believe therapy should be collaborative, compassionate, and functional. Communication is more than words—it’s how we connect, participate, and express identity. My approach blends evidence-based practice with mindfulness and whole-person care. I see communication as a powerful tool for growth and change. My therapy blends evidence-based practice with creativity, mindfulness, and compassion. From the first evaluation, I collaborate with clients and families to set functional, meaningful goals that extend beyond the therapy room. What A Session Looks Like With Autumn
For children, sessions are playful and engaging, often involving literacy and caregiver coaching. For adults, therapy is functional and practical — focusing on memory, problem-solving, safe swallowing, or voice skills needed in daily life. My goal is to empower each client to connect authentically and confidently. In every case, I honor both the science of speech-language pathology and the art of creating a mindful, supportive environment where clients feel seen, capable, and equipped to succeed. The first session is typically a comprehensive evaluation. During this time, I’ll get to know you (or your child), review history, and complete assessments to better understand communication, cognitive, voice, or swallowing needs. From there, we’ll develop a personalized plan together — outlining clear goals, strategies, and recommendations that fit into real life.
