Amy Kunstle has enjoyed many different experiences and opportunities in her 30+ years working as a speech-language pathologist, registered dietitian, and chef both in private practice and as the creator and curator of language and literacy boxes and a community-based coffee house and culinary incubator. Her educational background includes a degree in Human Nutrition & Dietetics from Colorado State University followed by a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University. During her career, Amy has loved working with clients melding the fields of speech-language pathology and nutrition in areas such as infant and pediatric feeding, nutrition and speech-language/voice intervention.
My Approach To Speech Therapy
My approach to speech-language therapy is tailored and joyful. My goal is to create a customized and personal approach for each individual that reflects their values, communicative/therapeutic needs and opportunities for growth across a variety of circumstances and relationships. I enjoy sitting with patients and their families understanding their history, current needs and completing a thorough assessment to determine together what priority goals are to achieve their desired outcomes.
What A Session Looks Like With Me
Each session is viewed as an opportunity to listen to the successes and challenges of practice and application of tools learned in therapy. Following our update, I like to introduce our game plan for each session and focus on productive therapeutic practice, enjoyable social interchange and generalization and building a strong relationship to springboard good opportunities for continued application outside of therapy. Each session includes targeting three to five goals with multiple opportunities to practice enjoyable reinforcement activities (games, conversation, role playing) and suggested activities with family and friends. I love creating interesting literacy-based sessions using age-level fun books, coordinated thematic expansion of language concepts and practice activities at home that may include cooking activities, targeted exploration and more suggested reading. Language exploration is an adventure in itself and a rich and beautiful experience with family and friends makes it even more fun to engage newly learned skills!
